Project Breakdown:
The project, named as Ford Mustang GT, has been done to closely capture the essence of the Ford Mustang GT 2020. For that purpose, the slow and speed ramping animation styles were used. The whole animation is just 30 seconds long. The animation by JeanYan 3D was used as the sole inspiration. The music is by Roman Senyk, the Dawn of Change.
Shots/Scenes:
The main Idea was to do the still car animation for the portfolio, and did select the Ford Mustang for it. The animation comprises of total 11 different scene shots:
• DOLLY IN
• LOGO REVEAL
• LOGO DOLLY OUT (DUTCH ANGLE)
• PEDESTAL DOWN AND TILT UP
• TIRE DOLLY IN
• FRONT TRACK LEFT
• GT LOGO PAN IN AND TRACK
• TIRE PAN IN AND TRACK
• STEERING WHEEL PAN IN AND TRACK
• HEADLIGHT PAN IN AND TRACK
• GT LOGO DOLLY OUT (DUTCH ANGLE)
The Challenges been Faced:
This was the second experience with the speed ramping animation. And the toughest aspect in it is always the jittering of the animation. Re-renders has been done to make them smoother.
In some speed ramping shots, to match up the snare, a little dramatic zoomed in was added in the Davinci Resolve and in blender for some. As always, the selection of the music is a challenge in itself. The sequence of the shots to match up with the music was kind of difficult as ended up missing up some frames.
The Things been Learnt:
Did a lot of testing on exporting in the right format. EXR format is really the best one in DWAA compression method. Got more hold over the tracking of the shots and color grading. Improvement in the Environment and HDRI setups.
The selection of the music is somehow should have been the foremost step to save time.
The Elements that can be Improved
The lighting in the headlight shot could have been better.
The transition between the shots has always been that one thing that get missed. The repetition between the speed ramping shots seems way too familiar.
